We discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security", he wrote. The Prime Minister asserted New Delhi and Washington would continue to work together for the “global good". PM’s Push For ‘Dialogue And Diplomacy’ According to an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi called for a peaceful resolution of conflicts, pushing for “dialogue and diplomacy". “Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s consistent support for peace efforts and reiterated the call for peaceful resolution of the conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy", read the statement. Pertinent to note that the US and Iran are locked in a conflict, as peace talks continue to remain at standstill. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also conveyed his warm greetings to President Trump, whom he has described as a “great friend" at multiple occasions. “Prime Minister requested Secretary Rubio to convey his warm greetings to President Trump and said that he looked forward to their continued exchanges".

‘US Will Not Let Iran Hold Energy Market Hostage’ US Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott elaborated on the conversation between PM Modi and Rubio during the meeting. According to Pigott, the two leaders discussed the situation in West Asia, with Secretary Rubio emphasising that US would not let Iran “hold the global energy markets hostage". “The Secretary and Prime Minister discussed the current situation in the Middle East. The Secretary emphasized that the United States will not let Iran hold the global energy market hostage and affirmed that U.S. energy products have the potential to diversify India’s energy supply", he said. The two sides reiterated commitment to double the trade by 2030, added the spokesperson. “The Secretary and Prime Minister agreed to deepen trade and defense cooperation and accelerate collaboration on critical and emerging technologies." ‘Productive Discussions’ Sharing details on the meeting between PM Modi and Rubio, Gor said “productive discussions" on ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors — including security, trade, and critical technologies — were held. “Great to join @SecRubio for a meeting with Prime Minister @narendramodi. Marco Rubio and his wife Jeanette D. Rubio landed in New Delhi on Saturday after a brief stopover in Kolkata. The visit comes as the ties between New Delhi and Washington recently witnessed a thaw, after months of tension over the Trump administration’s reciprocal tariff policy. Back in 2025, the White House had slapped a steep 25 per cent tariff against Indian goods entering American markets, and another 25 per cent over New Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil.
