(Source: PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked his council of ministers to focus on the vision for 2047 and push reforms aimed at improving people’s lives and transforming India into a developed nation by the time the country completes 100 years of independence. During the nearly three and a half hour meeting of the Council of Ministers, PM Modi stressed the need for next generation reforms to ensure balanced and long term development across sectors in the coming decades. According to sources quoted by PTI, the prime minister outlined key reform priorities that could help India achieve its development goals by 2047. He told ministers that governance must remain focused on improving the daily lives of citizens and ensuring greater “ease of living". PM Modi also emphasised that there should be minimal interference in people’s lives. First Council Meeting This Year The meeting was held just hours after PM Modi returned from his five nation foreign tour. It was attended by Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State with independent charge and Ministers of State. This was the first Council of Ministers meeting held this year. The discussions also covered possible energy disruptions arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia. According to a report by Indian Express, PM Modi urged ministers to explore alternative energy sources amid concerns linked to the Iran conflict and a possible blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The prime minister directed ministers to ensure that government welfare schemes reach the maximum number of beneficiaries. Sources said PM Modi asked ministers to focus on future goals instead of dwelling on past achievements. He reminded ministers that although the government has been in power since 2014, the focus in 2026 should remain on future targets, governance and delivery. The prime minister also stressed that there should be no pendency in government work. Jaishankar Briefs Ministers On Foreign Tour External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar gave a presentation on PM Modi’s recently concluded foreign visit, during which the prime minister travelled to the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy. Nine secretaries from various ministries and departments also presented reports on the performance and initiatives of their respective departments. Some presentations focused on the work completed during the first two years of the PM Modi government’s third term. Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan made a presentation on overall government reforms and citizen centric initiatives. Rajiv Gauba also addressed the meeting. Earlier, Modi had outlined his government’s reform agenda for the next decade, saying the government’s “Reform Express" had delivered major systemic changes and benefitted ordinary citizens. The meeting came shortly after the BJP’s strong performance in the Assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, along with the NDA returning to power in Puducherry.
