Government sources said India has long sought to tap Norway’s advanced geoscience capabilities and Arctic-linked expertise as part of its broader diversification strategy. They added that countries including the United States and several European partners are increasingly attempting to build alternatives to Chinese control over rare earths and strategic mineral processing. Sources also claimed that Beijing views such initiatives not merely as commercial arrangements but as part of a wider geopolitical “de-risking" strategy aimed at reducing dependence on China in future green-transition and high-technology sectors.
