Hyderabad factory blast: Families left distraught after losing breadwinners
Hyderabad: Heartrending scenes unfolded outside the mortuary of the govt area hospital in Patancheru on Monday where bodies of the deceased were lined up for identification by their family members. While some sobbed inconsolably, others sat in stunned silence — struggling to make sense of how their lives turned upside down in a matter of hours.Ram Singh Rajbag’s daughters broke down the moment they saw their father’s body. “He left for work at 8 am. I came to know of the incident at 9:45 am. We started calling my father repeatedly but could not reach him,” said a distraught Pinky Kumari, Ram Singh’s eldest daughter and mother of two who works at the company’s Madinaguda branch. Holding on tightly to her younger sister, who was also in shock, Pinky shared how Ram Singh was the sole provider of the family. “We have a brother who is still studying. My sister was set to get married in Nov. I don’t know how we are going to survive without our father.”Standing teary-eyed was Debashish from Cuttack, Odisha, whose 22-year-old relative, Lagnajeet Duri, had died in the blast. The latter worked as a machine cutting operator inside the quality control block.“I brought him here for work four years ago. Little did I know I would have to see this day,” Debashish said, adding, “His father worked as a street vendor, but met with a road accident and is unable to work now due to disability. I don’t have the courage to inform his parents about his death. Especially as he was the sole breadwinner for the family. He was about to get his sister married.”Speaking to TOI from their home in Bihar, Chunu, brother of Shashi Bhushan, said that they are still struggling to process the news. “The family was happy as my brother’s wife gave birth to a baby boy about six months back. Now, all of a sudden, we get a call about his death. I don’t know how his wife and three small kids—all under the age of four – will cope with this. They were all dependent on his salary.”
