Honda to launch ZR-V today: Everything you need to know

Honda is set to strengthen its premium portfolio in India with the launch of the Honda ZR-V e:HEV today. The SUV will mark Honda’s return to the premium completely built unit (CBU) segment after the discontinuation of the Honda Accord Hybrid, while also expanding the brand’s hybrid-focused lineup in the country. Positioned above the Honda Elevate, the ZR-V e:HEV is aimed at buyers looking for a refined five-seat premium SUV with a strong emphasis on comfort, technology and hybrid efficiency. Read Full Story Expected price and rivals The ZR-V e:HEV is expected to arrive in India through the CBU route, which means pricing is likely to remain on the premium side. Industry estimates suggest the SUV could be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (e showroom), depending on the variant and equipment level offered for the Indian market. At this price point, the ZR-V is expected to rival premium SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. However, unlike most of its competitors, the Honda will focus on delivering a premium five-seat experience paired with a strong-hybrid powertrain. Exterior design Compared to Honda’s more upright SUV designs, the ZR-V adopts a sleeker silhouette with a wider stance and smoother body lines aimed at enhancing its urban appeal. The front fascia is expected to feature a large chrome-accented grille, slim LED headlamps and sculpted bumpers with sporty air-channel styling elements. Gloss-black cladding along the lower sections is also likely to add contrast to the exterior design. At the rear, the SUV is expected to get wraparound LED tail-lamps, a blacked-out bumper section and dual exhaust finishers connected by a chrome strip. Depending on the variant, alloy wheel sizes could range from 17 inches to 19 inches. Internationally, the ZR-V measures around 4.56 metres in length, placing it in line with several premium mid-size SUVs sold in India. Strong-hybrid powertrain The Honda ZR-V e:HEV will arrive exclusively with Honda’s e:HEV strong-hybrid technology. The SUV uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine operating on the Atkinson cycle and paired with two electric motors. The petrol engine alone produces 143bhp and 186Nm of torque, while the combined hybrid system output stands at 184bhp and 315Nm. Power will be sent to the front wheels through an e-CVT automatic gearbox. While international markets offer both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, the India-spec model is expected to remain front-wheel drive only. The hybrid setup is expected to prioritise smoothness, silent city driving and lower running costs, while also delivering stronger performance than conventional naturally aspirated petrol SUVs in this segment. Interior and features Inside, the ZR-V is expected to offer a premium cabin layout with a strong focus on practicality and user-friendly controls. Unlike several newer SUVs that rely heavily on touchscreen-based operations, Honda is expected to retain physical buttons and rotary controls for climate and audio functions. Expected features include a large freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory function, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and a premium Bose sound system. Safety Honda is also expected to equip the SUV with its Honda Sensing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite. The package is likely to include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision mitigation braking and blind-spot monitoring. Other expected safety features include six airbags, electronic stability control, a rear-view camera and parking sensors. The ZR-V is unlikely to become a high-volume model in India due to its premium pricing and CBU status.
