In a major step toward improving postal delivery efficiency, an Independent Delivery Centre (IDC) was inaugurated on Monday at the Parcel Hub Building in R.R. Pet, Eluru. The centre was opened by Eluru Postal Superintendent Surakattula Srikar Babu, who highlighted the initiative as a significant milestone for the city’s postal services.
The move is expected to accelerate letter and parcel distribution while improving overall service quality. To facilitate faster delivery, postmen will now be provided motorbikes, enabling them to cover more areas efficiently. In another customer-friendly measure, the IDC will also function on Sundays and public holidays, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of letters and packages with priority.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Srikar Babu said that the IDC would bring together the delivery operations of five major post offices in Eluru — Eluru Head Post Office, Venkataraopet, Narasimharaopet, Eluru Railway Station, and Industrial Estate Post Office — into a single centralised delivery system.
Mr. Srikar Babu encouraged the public to make the most of this modernised delivery model, which promises both speed and reliability.
Eluru Assistant Postal Superintendent D. Srinivasa Rao, Postal Inspector U. Chandrasekhar, IDC In-charge M. Srinivasa Rao, and other postal staff from across Eluru Town were present.
