A file photo of the Delhi Police (PTI) A shocking double murder case was reported from southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area in the early hours of Thursday after a woman and her teenage son were found stabbed to death inside their residence. Police suspect robbery may have been one of the motives behind the killings, as cash and jewellery were allegedly found missing from the house. The deceased were identified as Sharda and her son Khushal/Kushal, who was a school student. While preliminary police inputs mentioned the woman’s age as 38 and the boy’s as 13, other reports identified them as 40 and 14 years old, respectively. Both victims were allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon inside their home in Gali No. 10 of Govindpuri in the Kalkaji area. According to the Delhi Police, a PCR call regarding the murders was received at the Govindpuri Police Station at around 01.11 am on May 21. The call was registered vide DD No. 13 after the victims’ family alerted authorities. Police said complainant Vishnu Sahu, who works as a fruit and vegetable vendor in weekly markets, returned to his residence at around 12.30 am after setting up his shop at the Budh Bazaar market. Upon reaching home, he allegedly noticed that the front door was latched from the outside. When he entered the house, he found his wife and son lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen area. Both had sustained multiple stab wounds. The father immediately informed the police, following which local police teams rushed to the scene along with senior officers, including the Station House Officer (SHO), ACP and other officials. Initial investigation suggested that the attackers used a sharp-edged weapon to kill the mother-son duo. Police said only Sharda and her son were inside the house at the time of the attack, while Vishnu Sahu was away for work. The inspection of the crime scene further revealed signs of theft. According to Delhi Police, cash and jewellery were found missing from almirahs inside the residence. IANS reported that the accused allegedly fled with nearly Rs 10-12 lakh in cash along with gold and silver ornaments worth several lakh rupees after committing the crime. The bodies were later shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for postmortem examination. Delhi Police said the crime team and forensic science laboratory (FSL) team were called to inspect the scene and gather evidence. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to murder and house theft, has been registered. “Multiple teams are deployed to nab the accused person," Delhi Police said in its statement. Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting local intelligence inputs to identify those involved in the killings. According to reports, the family originally hails from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh and has been residing in Delhi’s Govindpuri area for nearly 15 years. Vishnu Sahu reportedly earns a living by running a vegetable business in weekly markets across the city. Senior police officers visited the crime scene soon after the incident was reported, and a detailed investigation was initiated. Police are probing all possible angles in the case, including robbery and whether the attackers had prior information about the family and the valuables kept inside the house.
