China Touts 100 Million CPC Members, Amit Malviya Reacts: ‘BJP Bigger With 140 Million’

China’s ruling Communist Party on Monday announced that its membership has surpassed 100 million, in a “significant milestone" ahead of the party’s 104th founding anniversary.

The announcement drew a quick response from BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who said that the BJP remains the world’s largest political party, with 140 million primary members.

The Communist Party of China, founded in 1921, had more than 100.27 million members at the end of 2024, up by nearly 1.09 million from 2023, the report released by the Central Organisation Department (COD) of the CPC showed.

“The Communist Party of China has surpassed 100 million members. A significant milestone! From less than 60 members at its founding in 1921 to 100 million, always from the people and for the people," said Mao Ning, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Led by President Xi Jinping, the Communist Party of China (CPC) is among the few remaining ruling Communist parties in the world, alongside those in Vietnam, Laos, Cuba, and North Korea, which also follow Marxist and socialist ideologies.

Taking to X, Malviya said: “That makes the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) with more than 140 million primary members, the world’s largest political party."

Malviya noted that the achievement is particularly significant given that India is the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy.

“It is a testament to the deep trust and connection the BJP has built with every corner of the country," he added in his post on X, responding to the CPC’s show of strength.

The BJP concluded its 2024-2025 membership drive with a significant milestone, reporting a total of 14 crore (140 million) primary members across the country.
