Named as an accused in the dowry death case involving her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, Giribala Singh has now been served a final notice by the Bhopal police to join the investigation. If she fails to appear before the Investigating Officer again, police may move to seek cancellation of her anticipatory bail. “We have served a third notice. She has so far not appeared, saying that she is not available at her residence," Bhopal Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar told CNN-News18. The first WhatsApp notice came yesterday. I also want police to take my statement," she said, speaking to the media on Friday. Giribala Singh was granted anticipatory bail by a local court on May 15. While police are considering approaching the court to seek cancellation of her bail for custodial interrogation, Twisha Sharma’s family has already filed an application before the Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking the same relief. “We are pressing for the bail cancellation application to be taken up at the earliest – if possible, today itself," Anurag Srivastav, counsel for Twisha’s family, told CNN-News18. Call records raise fresh questions The latest allegation against Giribala Singh relates to a series of phone calls she allegedly made soon after Twisha’s death. According to the family, Giribala made 46 calls to various individuals, allegedly in an attempt to influence the investigation. Twisha’s family advocate, Ankur Sharma, questioned why Giribala Singh – herself a suspect in the case – was engaged in prolonged conversations with the Thana Incharge (TI) of Katara Hills police station, where the FIR was registered. Singh claimed all those calls were “condolence calls". In an application filed before the court, the family has sought preservation and forensic examination of call detail records (CDRs), tower locations, WhatsApp chats, emails, IP logs, cloud data, CCTV footage, and social media records linked to the 46 phone numbers. According to the family, some of the numbers allegedly belong to senior bureaucrats and judicial officers, including an additional secretary-level officer, a Director General-rank IPS officer, two additional district judges, a Lokayukta official, and a district judge. “According to documents reported in the public domain, communications allegedly took place with Shri Manoj Kumar (ADJ), Justice Satyendra Kumar Singh (Lokayukta), Shri AK Mishra (District Judge), persons associated with CCTV maintenance including Rohit Vishwakarma and Vinod Wani, Advocate Venosh Carlo, Dr Rajbala Bhaudoria, Siabala Baghel, Pramod Jharia, Dr Yashweer, Pankaj Kushwaha, Ajey Singh, Manojkumar, as well as other individuals connected with public institutions and official positions," a statement issued by Twisha’s family said. The family clarified that it was not drawing conclusions from the calls but wanted the communications independently examined. “The family has no knowledge regarding the contents or purpose of these conversations and does not draw any conclusion from them. However, considering the gravity of the case, the timing and frequency of such communications deserve independent examination by the SIT and competent authorities," the statement added. Concerns over CCTV footage Twisha’s family has also raised concerns over calls allegedly made to individuals associated with CCTV handling and maintenance. “Particularly concerning to the family are the reported communications with persons associated with CCTV systems and electronic evidence. CCTV footage and digital records are crucial pieces of evidence in any suspicious death investigation. The family therefore believes that the purpose, timing, and context of every such communication must be independently verified through forensic and investigative processes so that no doubt remains regarding the integrity of the evidence," the family said in its statement. Singh, on the other hand, claimed that she called the CCTV team “to know what has happened." Questions around the CCTV footage resurfaced after a video purportedly showing Twisha in her final moments surfaced publicly.
