According to police officials, Arup Bakshi is originally from Narail district in Bangladesh.
He illegally entered India in 2012 and lived with a doctor in Sitapur until 2014. During this period, he managed to obtain an Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving licence, and even an Indian passport.
