All 50 of the world’s hottest cities on Friday morning were in India, as a brutal heatwave tightened its grip across north, central and eastern parts of the country, pushing temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius even before noon.
According to air quality and weather tracker AQI.in, the entire global top-50 hottest cities list at 10:50 am IST was dominated by Indian cities, with Balangir in Odisha emerging as the hottest location at 45°C.
Read Full Story Close behind were Chandrapur and Prayagraj at 44°C, alongside multiple cities in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
The rankings painted a startling picture of the scale of the ongoing heatwave.
More than half the cities in the list were from Uttar Pradesh alone, with places such as Varanasi, Banda, Bareilly and Ayodhya recording temperatures between 42°C and 43°C before midday.
