Speakers at meet say SC Status for Dalit Christians is a constitutional right
Telangana Foods Chairman Meday Rajeev Sagar asserted that the fight for granting Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Dalit Christians will continue until justice is achieved
Telangana Foods Chairman Meday Rajeev Sagar asserted that the fight for granting Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Dalit Christians will continue until justice is achieved. Speaking at a round table conference organised by the Telangana Christian JAC at the YMCA, Secunderabad, he said religious conversion does not erase caste-based discrimination and that Dalit Christians continue to face social and economic disadvantages.
Speakers at the round table conference called for immediate amendment of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, which currently restricts SC status to Dalits professing Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism. They urged the
Centre to introduce a bill in Parliament extending SC status to Dalit Christians, arguing that the existing provision undermines constitutional guarantees of equality and religious freedom. The meeting was attended by Telangana
Christian JAC president Gollapalli John, Christian Minority Finance Corporation Chairman Deepak John, retired Additional DGP Babu Rao, Pastors โ Mohan Babu, former MLC Rajeshwar Rao, Rev Rajeshwar Solomon and several other Christian community leaders.
