PoK Boiling Point: JAAC Leader Umar Nazir Kashmiri Issues Mega Sunday Protest Call Against Pakistan | Exclusive Details Reported By, Last Updated: July 04, 2026, 20:23 IST The move comes after the alleged enforced disappearance of JAAC spokesperson Shaukat Nawaz Mir, alongside hundreds of unnamed civil rights activists Thousands of people from various parts of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) gathered in Rawalakot and raised slogans. (File pic/ANI) A political storm is brewing across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as the proscribed Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has issued a defiant call for massive regional protests on Sunday. Prominent JAAC core member Umar Nazir Kashmiri has urged citizens across all three administrative divisions to take to the streets in full force, directly challenging a widening state crackdown and demanding the immediate release of disappeared activists and leaders.
The primary catalyst for this latest mass mobilisation is the high-profile arrest and alleged enforced disappearance of senior trader leader and JAAC spokesperson Shaukat Nawaz Mir, alongside hundreds of unnamed civil rights activists. Mir was reportedly detained during a sweeping joint security operation involving Pakistani intelligence agencies and local police as he attempted to reach a sit-in demonstration. The state establishment’s move to curb the leadership has instead triggered widespread public fury across major urban hubs. In an impassioned appeal addressed directly to the residents of the Muzaffarabad, Jhelum, and Neelum valleys, Umar Nazir Kashmiri stressed that the unfolding movement is driven by the collective will of ordinary citizens rather than specific individuals. He explicitly called on the local populace to reject systemic oppression, asking them to step out of their homes peacefully but resolutely.
“We must not bow down to oppression and tyranny," Kashmiri stated, maintaining that steadfast, non-violent resistance remains the ultimate path to successfully securing public rights and an end to state atrocities. The call for structural protests comes at a highly volatile juncture for the region. The Pakistani administration recently placed a formal ban on the JAAC under anti-terrorism laws following more than a month of continuous strikes, sit-ins, and civil unrest over inflating wheat prices, heavy electricity taxation, and human rights violations. Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have severely criticised the deployment of excessive force and the usage of sweeping anti-terror legislation against what they describe as a grassroots socio-political alliance. Despite heavy police deployment and the erection of security barricades across Muzaffarabad and adjoining districts, local organizers insist that the planned Sunday demonstrations will proceed unhindered.
