The opposition Trinamool Congress lashed out at the ruling BJP in West Bengal after eggs were thrown at Kunal Ghosh, a staunch Mamata Banerjee loyalist and an MLA elected from Kolkata’s Beliaghata constituency. The incident occurred on Monday evening outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata’s Kalighat area. Ghosh was speaking with the media outside the Trinamool Congress supremo’s residence when a man, dressed in a black shirt, threw an egg at him. The egg hit the back of Ghosh’s head. Read Full Story Ghosh anticipated the move as he was spotted pointing his fingers at the attacker right before the attack. However, within seconds, the egg was hurled at him. Holding a pinch of a smile on his face, Ghosh then urged the press to show the accused’s face prominently.
Later, the journalist-turned-politician lambasted the BJP government for alleged lawlessness in Bengal. “I was standing there speaking to the media after coming out of Mamata-di's house. Two boys were within arm's reach. I was unarmed. One of them threw an egg and ran away. Nobody protested, nobody stopped them, and nobody tried to catch them," Ghosh said.” Striking a defiant note, he later mentioned, "This will not deter me. One incident like this will not make any difference." KUNAL GHOSH DESERVED EGG-TREATMENT, SAID ACCUSED Meanwhile, the accused, who has been identified as Chandan, told India Today that Kunal Ghosh deserved the treatment that he got on Monday. "He (Ghosh) deserves to be hit with eggs.
He has committed many atrocities and done many wrong things. Everyone knows what he has done. There is nothing more to add,” said Chandan, who claimed that he was a local. Meanwhile, it is unknown whether any police complaint has been launched against the accused. KALYAN BANERJEE ALLEGED POLICE INACTION Launching a scathing attack against the BJP and the state administration, another Mamata Banerjee aide, Kalyan Banerjee, said that the local goons under BJP’s patronage are targeting TMC leaders and the police are acting as silent spectators. The police were there, but they did nothing. When the CID arrived, I explicitly pointed out that both witnesses are associated with the BJP.
One of them was this youth—look at this picture on my phone—who was actually part of the group that came to throw eggs at us,” Banerjee said. “I called the Police Commissioner directly, and even after 25 to 30 minutes, nobody has arrived on the scene. There is a serious threat to our lives. This is the current situation in West Bengal,” he further added. A few days back, Sabyasachi Dutta, another TMC heavyweight, was subjected to an egg attack while he was being taken to the court. Ends
