(Image: gofundme.com) A 26-year-old Indian-origin man was fatally stabbed in Southall, west London, on Wednesday, prompting a murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The victim has been identified as Gurbhej Singh, a resident of Mehdipur village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. According to a report in the BBC, local police were called at around 00:40 BST on June 10 following reports of a stabbing on North Road near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane.
Two men were injured in the incident. Singh, who suffered a knife wound, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment and was later discharged. Seven Arrested, Murder Probe Underway According to the Metropolitan Police, seven men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Six have since been released without further action, while one suspect has been granted bail pending further inquiries. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said detectives were continuing to investigate the case and appealed for witnesses to come forward. Police Appeal For Witnesses “We believe he was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Well Lane at around 00:30…I would urge anyone with CCTV covering the area – or who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police – to please come forward." Singh, a Class XII pass-out, had moved to the United Kingdom in 2022 after his family reportedly spent nearly Rs 24 lakh through an immigration agent.
His father, Mukhtiar Singh, is a farmer with a five-acre landholding in Tarn Taran. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Singh’s family and help repatriate his body to India. Family members have also sought assistance from the Indian government to facilitate the return of his mortal remains. The murder inquiry remains ongoing.
