A 24-year-old man was shot dead outside a police recruitment examination centre in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district on Tuesday, with his wife accusing her brother of carrying out the killing over their love marriage. The incident took place in the Rampur Maniharan police station area when Akanksha, a resident of Shamli district, had arrived at Gochar Inter College to appear for a police recruitment examination. Read Full Story According to police and family members, Akanksha's brother, Manjeet, allegedly reached the spot and shot Shiv Kumar in the head at close range. The victim collapsed on the spot, triggering panic among those present near the examination centre. Local residents informed the police, who rushed to the scene and took the injured man to a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. In her statement to the police, Akanksha said she had married Shiv Kumar in a love marriage about four months ago.
She alleged that her family had opposed the marriage from the beginning and that her brother killed her husband because of his anger over their relationship. The victim's brother, Shivam Kumar, also accused Akanksha's family of involvement in the murder and demanded strict action against the accused. Senior police officers reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene and questioned witnesses present in the area.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and said a case will be registered based on the complaint received. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused.
