A deadly shooting at a church in Jordan’s southern Karak governorate has left at least seven people dead and around 40 injured, after gunmen opened fire during a funeral attended by members of the country’s Christian community.
Jordanian authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack, while security forces continue their search for the unidentified attackers. The attack took place at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hmoud, also reported as Hammoud.
Witness accounts and security-camera footage aired by Jordanian state television indicated that multiple gunmen opened fire near the church before moving towards its entrance. Officials have not confirmed whether the perpetrators were connected to any known militant organisation, and no group had immediately claimed responsibility.
