In a decisive effort to tackle mounting economic challenges and conserve fuel, the Pakistan federal government has announced a comprehensive national austerity drive featuring sweeping operational cuts across all state institutions. Under the newly notified measures, the administration has ordered an immediate 50 per cent reduction in fuel allowances for all official government vehicles for the next three months, alongside a 5 per cent reduction in the non-employee-related expense budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.
The fiscal containment strategy imposes a strict three-month ban on foreign official visits and state-funded overseas travel for public servants. Furthermore, state departments face a complete prohibition on the procurement of new government vehicles and durable office equipment. To enforce strict administrative restraint and prevent unessential expenditure, the government has banned official dinners, funded seminars, and high-level conferences, encouraging public departments to transition exclusively to virtual teleconferencing tools.
