China has issued a flood warning to Nepal over a potential barrier lake breach on the Lande River following a glacier break. Debris blocking the river confluence in upper Lande led to the accumulation of 25 lakh cubic meters of water, with changing lake water color prompting alerts for downstream communities. Drones and satellites are monitoring the formation as rising water levels threaten fresh flooding along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to move to safer locations. Meanwhile, search, rescue, and evacuation operations continue in Nepal following catastrophic flash floods that left 600 dead and hundreds missing. Kathmandu has now authorized foreign specialized assistance to support complex rescue efforts in hydropower tunnels and assist with forensic DNA identification of bodies. International support includes technical rescue teams and relief supplies from India, alongside aid pledges from Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
