The Eluru district police busted a five-member gang allegedly involved in running a country-made weapon manufacturing unit in Jangareddygudem area and seized five firearms from their possession. โThe Chintalapudi police led by Jangareddygudem Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B.H. Venkateswarlu and CI T. Kranthi Kumar seized four live cartridges, explosive material, two iron barrel pipes, a welding machine and firearm manufacturing equipment,โ Eluru district Superintendent of Police (SP) K.
Pratap Shiva Kumar told the media on Saturday. The SP said a police team led by SI K. Satish Kumar, during a vehicle check on the outskirts of Chintalapudi on July 24, detained S. Saibabu and his friend T. Veerababu, who were riding a two-wheeler, for carrying a countrymade weapon.
During questioning, Veerababu confessed that he had procured the firearm from Y. Nageswara Rao. Later, the Eluru District Armoury Team arrested T. Ramaraju and M. Veerabhadrachari on the charge of manufacturing barrels for firearms, the SP said. โWe are trying to find out from where the accused were purchasing the explosive material, wood and other raw material for manufacturing guns,โ the SP said.
The accused would be produced before the court, the DSP said.
