HYDERABAD Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) launched a special initiative to enhance coal production while ensuring uninterrupted supply of coal to consumers, conforming to the declared grade. Chairman and Managing Director of the company Buddhaprakash Jyoti on Saturday appointed special officers for each Area to closely monitor coal production, quality, grade protection, dispatch, productivity, process improvement, efficiency enhancement, coordination between Area and Corporate departments, and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes for the next three months, in view of the rising electricity demand in the State due to the El Niño conditions.
The CMD held a virtual meeting from Hyderabad on Saturday with Area General Managers to review coal production, coal quality, grade protection and dispatch. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti stated that coal quality was the hallmark of Singareni and there would be absolutely no compromise on maintaining it. He Instructed officials to take stringent measures across all Areas to ensure that consumers receive coal strictly conforming to the declared grade. During the review, officials pointed out that in some Areas, the mixing of ungraded coal and shale was affecting coal quality.
The CMD instructed them to take strict corrective measures to prevent the recurrence of such situations. The CMD directed that mining operations be carried out strictly seam-wise as per the Annual Coal Gradation Plan and that coal production must conform to the declared grade. He further instructed them that coal benches should be thoroughly cleaned before blasting in off-loading areas and that adequate distance should be maintained between coal benches and overburden benches. Rock and shale layers should be excavated separately without mixing them with coal and shift it only to the overburden dumps.
He instructed the officials to ensure adequate numbers of crushers were deployed in all opencast mines and Coal Handling Plants (CHPs) and that they remained operational at all times.
